A look at how we all need to re-imagine what our business offering to clients will be post COVID-19
The week ending Friday 13 March(!) had a devastating impact on Think Different Events. In the space of 48 hours all the events we were working on were cancelled or postponed until an indeterminate date in the future.
Difficult decisions were called upon and, for once, the media’s negative spin on what businesses were facing made it easier to tell all the team they were no longer required. Furlough was a word that hadn’t crossed my lexicon of business speak over the years and may or may not prove beneficial in the weeks to come.
Within days everyone was all ‘Zoomed’ up, or so it seemed and from a business perspective it provided an opportunity to approach my six clients under The Business Journey series of events to look at how we can develop an online approach to the quarterly events we had been running since 2013.
All six were in agreement that this was an ideal opportunity to do what The Business Journey was set up for – support businesses, primarily within the SME community.
Within DAYS, we had invited, organised and delivered the first of our online Business Journey Q&A sessions, with just under 40 people being live at any point in time during the one hour session.
Attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions in advance during the registration process and also via the online chat facility and most were answered to some degree by the partners.
The second one is due to take place on 24 April.
For now, ‘Live’ events may be off the agenda. However, they will return, stronger and refined to meet changing needs and to take advantage of technologies which many more people will now feel far more comfortable with.
Online events, short, snappy taster sessions which deliver just in time advice and support will flourish too.
The events industry is not dead. It is re-imagining itself and Think Different Events is ready to go forward with clients in ways that may have seemed challenging only a few weeks ago.
